In a surprise move, McLaren’s latest GT3 challenger will make its iRacing bow in September this year.
A Twitter/X post by IMSA SportsCar Championship participants Pfaff Motorsports has all but confirmed that the McLaren 720S GT3 Evo is coming to iRacing. The team presented a work-in-progress rendering of the car alongside the iRacing logo, a post that was later retweeted by iRacing’s socials, seemingly confirming the news.
The road-going version of the 720S was a critical success for the Woking-based manufacturer upon its 2017 release, with a GT3 racecar version following a year later.
An Evo update improved both suspension adjustability and serviceability upon its inception in 2023, maintaining McLaren’s position as a front-runner in the GT3 category (and frequently the most popular car in the British GT Championship).
Canadian outfit Pfaff Motorsports campaigns a 720S GT3 Evo in IMSA’s GTD Pro class, with full-time drivers Oliver Jarvis and Marvin Kirchhoefer partnered by former IndyCar driver James Hinchcliffe for endurance events, with current IndyCar star Alexander Rossi making a one-off appearance at the 24 Hours of Daytona as fourth driver.
The team currently sits fifth in the 2024 GTD standings after second-place finishes at Laguna Seca and Watkins Glen, with the team sure to welcome an iRacing version of its car to help with race prep.
