Following the announcement of this season’s calendar – including an event in Amsterdam – Fanatec has become the ‘official steering wheel’ partner for the Gran Turismo World Series.
The announcement follows World Series competitors taking to social media to sell their previous devices of late – many purchase the identical sim racing equipment used in the in-person events to get used to the feedback at home.
The German manufacturer formally announced a partnership with Gran Turismo and developers Polyphony Digital way back in July 2021, which was followed by the first direct drive system for PlayStation consoles – the Gran Turismo DD Pro, available from December 2021.
“The sim racing experience you get at this price point is simply unmatched, and it opens you up to basically the entire Fanatec ecosystem,” said our review.
It now seems as if this device will be used for both the upcoming Showdown event in the Netherlands and the World Finals in December – although exact specifications are curiously missing from today’s (18th May) announcement.
Part of the deal will see Fanatec be added to the Brand Central area of Gran Turismo 7 at a later date. The company is also known for expansive partnerships with SRO – organisers of the GT World Challenge events – the World Rally Championship and Formula 1.
Reigning Toyota Gazoo Raxing GT Cup champion Igor Fraga will be sponsored in the real-world Super Formula Lights championship, which he will compete in alongside a SUPER GT campaign.
