During the debut of the ESL R1 esports competition in Poland this weekend, which uses the upcoming Rennsport sim racing game, the developers have moved to clarify its console status – and it sounds promising for PlayStation and Xbox owners.

When the new Unreal Engine 5-powered platform was launched back in May 2022, the official line wasn’t so clear cut for the title that so far has only been seen on PC.

“For me, PC is perfect, and that’s why we really focused on PC, but it would be great to have Rennsport also on console,” said Rennsport CEO Morris Hebecker to Traxion.GG last year.

Now, the angle seems much clearer.

“At the moment, we focus 100 per cent on the PC version, but I’m quite sure there will be a console version in the future,” said Hebecker to Traxion.GG inside the Spodek Arena this weekend.

“We definitely have [consoles] always in mind.

“[After] creating the sporting competition and all the content for the game, the logical next step should be to go on console.”

While it’s still very much in public PC development, with a Closed Beta expected and the ESL R1 tournament using computers, console owners are now also set to receive a simulator to rival the likes of Gran Turismo 7, Forza Motorsport and Assetto Corsa Competizione.

The timeframe for its PlayStation and Xbox release, however, remains unclear at this stage, and with the driving simulator still in its infancy, we wouldn’t expect it any time soon.
