JDM: Japanese Drift Master boasts a vibrant open world inspired by Japan, a suite of licensed cars and a single-player story campaign, but notably lacked any form of online multiplayer. Over a year on from its initial release, this is no longer the case.
Following beta tests, the PC version is playable online from today (29th June) in several multiplayer modes as part of a new update. When driving around the world, players can challenge online opponents they encounter to head-to-head events by opening the player’s stat menu and selecting Challenge.
These include traditional races to the finish line and Initial D-style one-on-one drift battles on twisty roads, where the player who accumulates the most points for drifting wins.
Online lobbies support up to eight players and can be started from the multiplayer menu or by interacting with other players. Collisions are disabled in open lobbies but can be enabled in private sessions.
After completing an online event, players can vote to continue racing on the same track or select a different challenge.
The update adds 15 online challenges, with a mix of lapped and point-to-point events.
