A new update has today (21st May) been released for RaceRoom Racing Experience, which brings with it two key features.

The free-to-enter platform created a native ranked multiplayer system last year, which is currently used for daily races and monthly Special Events. It can now also be used for multiplayer championships, with it tracking scores across multiple races and splits.

The first event to use it will be the upcoming DTM Esports season, and consequently, the system and user interface are expected to undergo further refinements as the season progresses.

The official DTM competition will run across five points-paying online events, before an in-person finale for the top drivers, with a real-world GT4 test among the prize pool.

Rebuilt side draft

A common driving technique – especially down the long Döttinger Höhe straight at the Nürburgring Nordschleife – seen in the likes of GT3 racing, NASCAR and in the Australian Supercars championship, is side drafting.

Especially with aero-dependent race cars, pulling up close alongside can create additional drag for the lead car, slowing them down. RaceRoom has rebuilt its aero physics to, in its words, “properly separate three cases: clean air, the slipstream behind a car, and the side draft alongside it,” following feedback from professional sim racer Moritz Löhner.

Elsewhere in the patch, work continues to improve multiplayer performance, and now dedicated servers will use less bandwidth, plus there’s a host of small tweaks listed below.

  • Physics – Rebuilt the side draft model so a car being overtaken gains drag when another car runs alongside and slightly behind it

  • McLaren 720S GT3 Evo – Improved downshifts in Automatic Gearbox mode
  • Mercedes-AMG GT3 – Improved downshifts in Automatic Gearbox mode
  • Ningbo – Fixed a case where going off track near the wall would see the player miss the crossing of a sector time gate and the lap would not count
  • Porsche 992 GT3 R – Improved downshifts in Automatic Gearbox mode
  • Various cars – Increased precision in texture coordinates to reduce distortion seen on logos positioned on round shaped car parts
