Cars from the 2023 Super Formula motorsport series are on their way to Gran Turismo 7 this month, it has been revealed today (3rd March 2023).

Thanks to a renewal of the partnership between the Super Formula-owning Japan Race Promotion organisation and Polyphony Digital, both the Toyota and Honda-powered Dallara SF23 cars will appear in-game.

The partnership had already borne fruit as the SF19 Dallara-built Super Formula cars appeared in GT Sport, before being ported to GT7 in 2022, and came complete with a functional push-to-pass system operated by the game’s nitrous button.

The aim of the SF23’s development was to encourage overtaking through trick aerodynamics, while also sending out an important green message by reducing 75% of the carbon emissions produced during the production process (compared to the previous SF19).

The gains are mostly thanks to the Bcomp bio-composite materials used in the car’s construction; including the use of cork, flax fibres and recycled carbon fibre in its bodywork. Tyre supplier Yokohama will also issue carbon-neutral rubber to teams, to help enhance the series’ sustainability credentials.

The Dallara SF23 will arrive in GT7 with two distinctive paint schemes, codenamed ‘Red Tiger’ and ‘White Tiger’, with a community-focused ‘Gran Turismo 7 Livery Contest’ planned for the cars post-release.

Super Formula is Japan’s premier single-seater series and has been a proving ground for several open-wheel superstars over the years; including alumni such as Eddie Irvine, Heinz-Harald Frentzen and Stoffel Vandoorne.

The 2023 grid includes ex-Formula 1 and 24 Hours of Le Mans winner Kamui Kobayashi as well as Red Bull protégé Liam Lawson.

The 2023 Super Formula season kicks off on the 8th of April at Fuji International Speedway, with the series going on to visit tracks like Suzuka and Autopolis – all three of which feature in GT7.

The SF23 cars will be released later this month as part of GT7’s April update. An exact release date is still to be announced.
